Vancouver, BC has consistently been one of the top three most liveable cities in the world based on the overall quality of life. With a world renowned mountain resort, hiking and biking trails and numerous water activities, Vancouver is a favourite for travelers seeking the great outdoors. Winning the 2010 Winter Olympics provided a further boost to the province and Vancouver has since caught the attention of the world. Shopping and cuisine maintains a steady pulse and vibrancy in the downtown core and the Arts and Entertainment industry is booming in Hollywood North.
Global BC has been a part of the Vancouver community since 1967 and has garnered numerous awards for their achievement as an outstanding corporate citizen. The focus of Global BC is not only to inform and entertain their community, but to seek partnerships within and participate in a wide range of festivals and events.
Major charitable organizations that Global BC has joined with are Variety the Children’s Charity and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. The annual Show of Hearts Telethon, in support of Variety the Children’s Charity, is the largest of its kind in British Columbia. Hosted by the Global BC News team, together Variety and Global BC raised over $8,000,000 in 2008 alone. Monies raised goes to support children in British Columbia with special needs.
BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and Global BC unite annually for the BC Children’s Miracle Weekend, a two-day tribute to raise funds for BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre. Currently in its 21st year, together Global BC and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation raised over $15,607,607 in 2008’s Miracle Weekend. It's up over a million dollars from last year. Funds raised will go towards purchasing medical equipment and funding much needed medical research and development.
Global BC has partnered with charities and organizations extending across British Columbia, building strong relationships with such organizations as Lions Society of BC, United Way of the Lower Mainland, BCSPCA, and the MS Society. Through these partnerships Global BC has supported the growth of community events and festivals throughout Greater Vancouver and our commitment to future philanthropy continues.
